Bolton midfielder George Thomason has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2027.
Thomason was the subject of interest for Bristol City, who targeted him as their replacement for the outgoing Alex Scott, reportedly bidding £1 million for the 22-year-old, with the bid being accepted.
It came out last night, however, that Thomason had rebuffed City’s offer in order to stay at Bolton.
His loyalty has now been rewarded with a new contract, only eight months after signing a new extended contract that originally kept him at the club until 2025.
Joining the club in January 2020 from Longridge, Thomason has become a regular in the squad for Bolton in the last year, with his performances getting better and better under manager Ian Evatt.
What manager Ian Evatt said about George Thomason

“It wasn’t a financial motivation for George, but it was important we recognised his loyalty and recognised his position in the squad, which has gone from being a young player in development stage to being a fully-fledged important first team member and his contract reflects that,” said Evatt.
“We’re delighted he’s committed his future to us and I think there’s a huge amount of progression still to come from him.”
“George has been in the building since my first day here and I’ve seen a huge amount of progression from him,” added Evatt.
“His journey has been very much aligned with that of the football club. Where we’ve progressed, he’s progressed, and I think there’s a huge ceiling with him and lots more to come. We’re delighted to have him for the future and to continue the journey together.”
