Bolton midfielder George Thomason has rejected the chance to move to Bristol City.

Bolton confirmed on their club website yesterday afternoon that Thomason was not going to be leaving the club, following Ian Evatt’s pre-match press conference ahead of their game at home to Fleetwood Town tonight.

Thomason was subject to a bid of £1 million from the Robins as they sought a replacement for Alex Scott after their star player moved to Bournemouth for a fee believed to be in the region of £25 million.

The 22-year-old has been at the Trotters since January 2020, when he joined from Longridge. Since then he has been a part of the first team squad, whilst also spending 2020 on loan at Bamber Bridge.

He started to feature regularly for the club last season despite having a knee injury which kept him out for a few months, making 14 starts, and coming off the bench a further seven times.

He only signed a new contract in December, keeping him at the club until 2025, while the club have the option of extending it for a further year. This may be one of the main reasons he has stuck around as he sees himself as a key figure for Bolton in the years to come.

Thomason, however, has started on the bench for both of Bolton’s league games so far this season, although he did start their EFL Cup win against Barrow.

Despite potentially being a key player for Bolton, he may have also had a chance to become a regular for a Championship team, which could have propelled his career even further.
