Bolton striker linked with Championship move

Bolton striker Dion Charles is attracting interest from Championship clubs Stoke City and Watford.

According to TEAMTalk, Charles’ brilliant form in League One has attracted suitors from the division above, and Bolton are bracing themselves for any bids.

Watford are targeting a new number 9 as their top priority before the window slams shut in just under three weeks. While Stoke need another striker to replace the outgoing Jacob Brown, who joined Premier League newcomers Luton Town last week.

The 27-year-old has attracted Championship interest in the past, so this will be no different to what Bolton usually have to deal with every window. The question is, will they give in on this occasion?

Should Dion Charles go?

Charles is an established League One striker, being a prolific goalscorer at this level with Bolton and Accrington before them. It is definitely arguable that Charles should be looking for a Championship move as he is certainly ready for it, and proved that he could make the step up.

The Northern Ireland international scored 17 goals last season in League One for the Trotters, including in the play-offs, where he netted in the semi-final first leg against Barnsley. Last season was his first full campaign at Bolton since joining them in January 2022 for an undisclosed fee.

He has picked up his form from last season already this time round, scoring two goals in the opening two League One games of the season. On that evidence, it looks like he is set for another blistering campaign.

Bolton have already completed signings for attacking players this summer such as winger Carlos Mendes Gomes from Luton Town and striker Dan Nlundulu from Southampton, but they may have to bring in another to replace Charles if he keeps up his wonderful form in the weeks ahead.
