Bolton Wanderers have signed former Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Jack Flint to bolster their goalkeeping options after he was released in the summer.

He has signed a one-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium, along with an option for the club to extend his contract for another year should they wish to do so.

Initially, he will join the Trotters’ B team, competing with fellow keepers Ellis Litherland and Luke Hutchinson for the number one spot.

Upon joining, Flint told the club website: “I’m buzzing to be signing and I’m delighted to be here.

“I’ve worked really hard to get to this point so I’m really happy to sign. I’m looking forward to working hard with the B Team to keep progressing.”

Flint will provide the B team with depth and competition in the goalkeeping department and will be one to watch out for. They currently play in the Central League under the guidance of Matt Craddock.

The 17-year-old came through the academy at Crewe and was a regular for them at several age groups. Unfortunately for Flint, he never made a first-team bow for his hometown club.

Last season he was playing for Alex’s Under-18 side before the decision was made for him to be released at the end of his contract. Despite what would have been bad news at the time, his move to Bolton now may make things seem all worth it, with Bolton being a division higher than Crewe.

He will now be keen to demonstrate his abilities in the hopes of one day making their first team.

Bolton have started this season very well, winning all four of their opening games in all competitions, however last week was a worrying one, with them first losing star striker Dion Charles to suspension following a red card against Fleetwood Town, and then they lost 0-4 at home to nearby rivals Wigan Athletic, in what was an eye opener for Ian Evatt’s side.

They will be hoping to put things right when they face Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
