Wanderers were left wanting last night as a last-minute loan deal for striker Ched Evans fell through.
However, a late hitch has left Bolton without the striker they so desperately needed.
Evans has spent this season on loan at Fleetwood Town and has scored 11 goals in 25 league games.
Wanderers had hoped to persuade Sheffield United to cut short his loan with Fleetwood in order to bolster their own attacking options.
But despite reportedly filing all the correct paperwork themselves, an issue, out of the club’s control, has scuppered the deal.
Bolton have been in dire need of a goalscorer this season and losing one of their attacking options, Christian Doidge, to a failed transfer, has only added to the problem.
The Trotters are the second-lowest scorers in England’s top four divisions. Only Huddersfield in the Premier League have scored fewer than Bolton this season.
Therefore, the failure to land Evans on loan could leave Bolton seriously lacking in their attacking options.
With Clayton Donaldson and Josh Magennis as the only recognised senior strikers in the team, Bolton look to be in serious trouble in their fight against relegation.
The failed loan move caps off a disappointing transfer window for Bolton.
The only solace fans can take is that Wanderers haven’t sold their best players this transfer window.
