Bolton winger Sammy Ameobi turns 27 today, although I’m not sure he’ll be celebrating after the season Bolton have had on and off the pitch.
Regardless, Ameobi has been one of Bolton’s most eye-catching players in the last three years.
The former Newcastle man made the switch to Bolton in 2016, at first on loan and then returned on a permanent deal in the summer of 2017.
During his time at Bolton, Ameobi has scored some stunning goals.
And, as it’s his birthday today, what better reason to take a look back at the best of them.
Goal v Millwall – 2016/17
Ameobi lit up League One with his silky skills and rocket of a left foot. His first goal for the Trotters came in a tricky but convincing 2-0 win away at Millwall. And what a goal it was!
Goal v Sheffield United (FA Cup) – 2016/17
During their time in League One, Bolton developed quite a rivalry with table-topping Sheffield United. The teams shared the spoils in the league, with a win each but Bolton took the upper hand in a thrilling 3-2 FA Cup win that features another stunner by Sammy Ameobi.
Goal v Gillingham – 2016/17
Bolton’s two league games against Gillingham during the 2016/17 saw the Wanderers take all six points. Bolton finished with an 8-0 aggregate total after winning 4-0 both home and away. However, it was Ameobi’s wonder strike in the home tie that is, without doubt, the best of the bunch.
Goal v Sheffield Wednesday – 2017/18
After promotion to the Championship, it took a while for Ameobi to start scoring. But when he got his first goal of the season, it was another sweet left-footed strike.
Goal v Sunderland – 2017/18
As Bolton became further embroiled in the relegation battle last season, points became a crucial commodity. Therefore, Ameobi’s precise 30-yard strike, away at Sunderland, was key in Bolton taking a hard-earned point.
Goal v Bristol City – 2017/18
And finally, we come to arguably Ameobi’s best goal for Bolton. Not only does the lanky forward run the entire length of the pitch but he has the cool finesse to slot the ball beautifully into the bottom corner to earn Bolton a vital three points.
Now, if only someone high up at Bolton could sort out some wages for Ameobi and the rest of the squad, he might be able to enjoy his birthday a bit more then.
All the best, Sammy!
