Bolton’s Remi Matthews hasn’t had the easiest time in his Wanderers career to date. At the start of January, a proposed permanent deal for the keeper looked to have collapsed.
Now though, the Bolton stopper is back and looking to make the number one spot his own.

The Trotter’s first choice goalkeeper, Ben Alnwick has been forced out of the team through injury in recent weeks.
That gave Matthews an opportunity for an extended run of games in the team and the former Norwich man has made full use of the opportunity. So much so that Ben Alnwick could have tough time regaining his place in the starting 11.

Matthews turned 25 on Sunday and made last night’s win over Birmingham the perfect birthday present. In the dying moments of the game, the keeper made a match-winning one-on-one save against Birmingham’s Che Evans to seal the three points for Wanderers. A finer piece of goalkeeping you’ll struggle to find.
